Fellowship in the American College of Hyperbaric Medicine recognizes qualifying physicians whose professional activity demonstrates sustained commitment to the practice, teaching, research, leadership, and advancement of hyperbaric medicine.
Fellowship reflects more than participation in the organization. It recognizes physicians who have demonstrated professional qualification, sustained involvement in hyperbaric medicine, and meaningful contribution to the field.
ACHM’s Fellowship requirements consider three broad areas:
Applicants must meet established requirements for ACHM membership, medical licensure, primary-specialty board certification, and hyperbaric medicine certification.
Applicants must demonstrate active professional involvement in hyperbaric medicine through clinical practice, teaching, research, or related professional responsibilities.
Applicants must document additional professional involvement through areas such as ACHM service, education, administration, research, publication, hospital service, professional societies, or activities supporting the advancement of evidence-based hyperbaric medicine.
ACHM Fellowship is designed for physicians who have established professional involvement in hyperbaric medicine and meet the College’s current Fellowship criteria.
According to the current Fellowship application, applicants must satisfy all of the following core requirements.
Applicants are responsible for providing documentation demonstrating satisfaction of the applicable criteria. Final determination is made by the ACHM Executive Committee or its designee.

Applicants must have been an active or emeritus ACHM member for two continuous years immediately prior to election.
In addition to satisfying all core Fellowship eligibility requirements, applicants must document at least three qualifying professional-involvement criteria.
These may include activity in clinical practice, ACHM leadership, teaching, administration, research, publication, hospital service, professional societies, or other recognized contributions to hyperbaric medicine.
A complete Fellowship application includes supporting documentation demonstrating eligibility and professional involvement, a recommendation letter, medical license, board-certification documentation, hyperbaric-certification documentation, curriculum vitae, and professional verification.
After a complete application is received, it is reviewed by the Fellow Committee Chairperson.
Following approval, the candidate is nominated to the Executive Committee for a vote. Candidates elected by the Executive Committee are notified and receive a recognition letter and certificate.
The current application states that Fellowship status has a ten-year life, provided the Fellow maintains ACHM membership.
ACHM’s current Fellowship application states that annual ACHM membership dues increase to $250 after Fellowship designation.
If your professional work reflects a sustained commitment to hyperbaric medicine and you meet the current eligibility requirements, review the complete application before beginning the Fellowship process.

Physicians who have not yet completed the required two continuous years of ACHM membership can begin by becoming part of the ACHM professional community.
